Atlas Cinemas wraps it up for birthdays

 Take one: Stay up all night baking a “Star Wars” birthday cake, stuffing an R2D2 pinata and blowing up a galaxy’s worth of balloons.
Take two: Call Atlas Cinemas and have them figure the birthday party out for you.
Atlas Cinemas has been part of the Cleveland movie house scene since 1976. The locally owned and operated theater company has four area locations including the Lakeshore 7 in Euclid, Great Lakes Stadium 16 in Mentor, Diamond Centre 16 in Mentor, and Midway Mall 8 in Elyria. Known for its friendly staff, great facilities, and for having the most digital and 3D screens in northeast Ohio, the independent theater company is now making a name for itself among those on the birthday party circuit.
Consider the combination - kids, a movie, cake - and it makes a lot of sense. It also means mom and dad don’t have to set up, entertain and clean up.
“Bring kids, let them make a mess here, watch a movie, have a good time with friends and when you’re done go home. The best part about our party program is it’s easy. We make it super, super easy,” says Chris Baxter, director of operations for Atlas Cinemas.
The basic birthday package includes use of a party room for up to an hour before or after the film. Each child costs $10.50, which includes the movie ticket, treats and one adult pass for every five children attending. You bring the cake and decorations.
The super birthday package includes a cake, decorations, pizza, paper products, plastic flatware, movie tickets, treats, and use of the party room for up to two hours before or after the film. The cost is $15.75 a kid with a minimum of 15 kids. Again, one adult gets in free for every five children in attendance. On Bargain Mondays when Atlas offers $5 movies all day, the cost may be adjusted to reflect the cheaper ticket price.
Baxter says the company keeps the cost for parties as low as possible. “The point of the party isn’t to make money but to provide a great experience for the kids who will then like the theaters and want to come back.”
In addition to the preset party packages, Atlas Cinemas has the flexibility to customize parties to suit each family. For instance, you can take over a theater during off-peak times to watch your kid’s favorite movie. They will work with you to plan out food and can serve as an event planner of sorts by taking care of your meal, cake, tablecloths, flatware, decorations. Whatever you may want - within reason of course - is up for discussion. “We do our best to never say no.”
Be sure to call early to book your birthday party, especially if it’s on an opening weekend of a blockbuster like the new Harry Potter due out this November.
